It has been a troubling week, and I do my best to be apolitical. Two core values that are near and dear to me come from my West Point education. Value Number 1: Honor. The Cadet Honor Code states simply, “A Cadet will not lie, cheat, or steal, nor tolerate those that do.” Value Number 2: Ethics. The Cadet Prayer states in part, “Help us to choose the harder right instead of the easy wrong, and never be content with a half a truth when the whole can be won.” The Cadet Honor Code and the Cadet Prayer have been my left and right limits for my character since the day I entered the United States Military Academy as a new Cadet. They still are. The decay of honor and ethics, and the lack of honor and integrity, concern me to my core.
